Your wedding day is one of the most special moments of your life. And it just makes sense that you want your four-legged best friend to be a part of it! More and more couples are including dogs in their wedding celebrations and we can’t get enough! But whether your give your pooch a seat of honor, or draft them as your “flower dog”, there a few questions to consider before buying them a bow tie.

Does your venue allow dogs?

This may seem like an obvious question, but its important to confirm the pet policy with your venue. Chances are a big church wedding will not be dog friendly.

Is your dog well behaved?

Your mischievous Labradoodle will not magically become well mannered just because it’s your wedding day. If you have a rambunctious pup that you still want to include in the ceremony, invest in some obedience lessons before the big day. And remember, a tired dog is a happy dog. So hire a sitter for the day who can play endless rounds of fetch with Fluffy before they are needed at the end of the aisle.

So you’ve confirmed your dog is welcome at the venue and you’ve invested in obedience lessons? Great! Now on to the fun part! Including your dog in your wedding may take a little extra planning, but the result is absolutely worth it. Because there is nothing cuter than a border collie in a flower crown. But don’t take our word for it. Check out other adorable ways brides have included dogs in their weddings below!

Before the Ceremony

If you know your dog is just not up for the big event itself, include them in the engagement photos! This eliminates any day-of stress and gives you adorable photos to treasure for years to come.

Or if your pup is helping you primp in the bridal suite, make sure your photographer gets a shot of their pre-ceremony pep talk!

Who says your flower girl can’t have four legs and tail? Decorate her collar and leash with flowers to match your bouquet! And make sure they are safe to eat in case she decides to munch them mid-ceremony.

We need to make one thing very clear. Your dog may upstage you in your wedding photographs. Especially if he is a bulldog and you put him in a top hat.

But the fun doesn’t have stop at the ceremony, include your pooch further still by adding them to the cake!

At the end of the evening, send your guests back home with “doggie bags” of treats for the pups at home who were unable to make it.

And if you’re brave enough to include your feline friends in the festivities…we recommend involving them in the quieter events of the day. Let your kitty hang out in the bridal suite and be sure to get a few sweet photos of her napping on your train or stealing your makeup brushes before you go brave the big crowd without her.

Or else you may end up with something like this…

Cats in weddings, may not be the best idea!

Above all else, be sure to have fun!
